1.5 Outer Coastal Plain
The Outer Coastal Plain is the region of flat land that borders the Coastal Zone. The land here is very wet. There are many marshes and swamps. Marshes and swamps are soft, wet, low-lying land. Marshes have many different types of tall grasses. Swamps have tall grasses and trees. These prairies of wild grass are sometimes called savannahs. Because there are so many tall trees, people started cutting the trees down. This timber is a source of wood used for building things. This region usually gets a good amount of rainfall each year. This makes it a good place to grow certain types of crops.
